Founding Members

Alison Darcy – Co-Artistic Director darcy@scapegoatcarnivaletheatre.com

Alison is an actor, director, dramaturge and teacher.

Some of her acting credits include roles in Mud (Scapegoat), Age of Arousal (Centaur), A Doll House (Saidye), Bye Bye Baby (Imago/Centaur), Brahm and the Angel (Geordie), Speak Easy (Sabooge), Bash: Latterday plays (Muttertung), Small Returns (Infinitheatre/November) for which she won the 2002 MECCA Best Actress award, girls!girls!girls! (Theatro Commanici), Taking Sides (Centaur), and various film and television productions.

Some of her directorial works include Life is a Dream (Scapegoat), The Works (Scapegoat), Things are bad-Ijumpile Lendaba (Mopo Productions/Scapegoat in South Africa), Last Call (NCTF/2007 Uno festival/Scapegoat), Real Estate (Centaur), Bash: Latterday plays (Muttertung) winner of two 2005 MECCA awards, The Scavenger's Daughter (Roy St. Collective), The Unknown Citizen (Project Porte Parole), Burning Cage (Woman Alone) which won the Best Pick of the Victoria and Seattle Fringe, Devil Catching (FEAST! Co-op) and assistant directed Copenhagen (Centaur) with Maurice Podbrey. She directed Hedda Gabler as one of 5 selected directors in Imago Theatre's 'Montreal Theatre Gym' - mentored by Peter Hinton.

In 2004 she initiated and taught an acting master-class (Mopo Productions) in Cape Town, South Africa for African actors who can't afford training and she continues to work in South Africa with Mopo productions, helping to develop underadvantaged artists and emerging theatre companies. In 2006 she dramaturged two new playwrights and directed a mainly Xhosa language speaking show for the Ihkewzi Festival in Cape Town and a 2 week tour of the surrounding black townships.

Alison is a 1996 acting graduate from the National Theatre School of Canada.

Joseph Shragge - Co-Artistic Director shragge@scapegoatcarnivaletheatre.com

Joseph received an MA in English and Creative Writing from Concordia University. His play The Scavenger's Daughter was produced by the Roy Street Collective and was listed among the best productions of 2003 (Best of Montreal, Montreal Mirror, 2004). His cycle of clown routines Scenes for Retiring Clowns were presented as part of the Clown Festival Rubber Chicken Family Circus, and his one-act play The Works was presented as part of the 2006Montreal Anarchist Theatre Festival before being awarded first runner up for the Centaur Best Production award at The Montreal Fringe Festival 2007.

His adaptation of The Three Sisters, directed by Leslie Baker played in 2008 at Tangente. His short fiction, and one translation, have appeared in Matrix Magazine, and Phantasmagoria.

Melanie St.Jacques – General Manager stjacques@scapegoatcarnivaletheatre.com

Melanie is an accomplished and passionate Stage Manager with over ten years of experience across Canada. She is an acting graduate of the DOME Theatre Program in Montreal and has a keen interest in movement and dance.

Some of her favorite Stage Management credits are; The Carpenter, Condoville and Long Days Journey into Night (Centaur Theatre), Man of LaMancha and A Doll House (Leanor & Alvin Segal Theatre), Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (Co-Pro L&AST and MTC), A Few Good Men (Neptune Theatre), Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (Geordie Productions), Caucasian Chalk Circle (Concordia University) and of course The Works and Scavenger's Daughter with Scapegoat Carnivale. Melanie has conducted stage management workshops at Dawson College, where she studied, and very much enjoys working with the students.

In 2007, Melanie was seen performing in Star Quality by Noel Coward at the Lac Brome Theatre in Knowlton, Quebec.

Associate Producers

Andreas Apergis apergis@scapegoatcarnivaletheatre.com

During the last fifteen years Andreas has been steadily working in Film, Television and Theatre. Fluently trilingual (English French and Greek), this native Montrealer has had the good fortune to act in both official languages. Working in Toronto and Montreal he has had recurring roles in such televised series as: CTV's The City, Fx the Series and CBC's bilingual epic on motorcycle gangs in The Last Chapter / Le Dernier Chapitre parts 1 and 2. In the French language, Andreas has held down key roles in several Quebec productions, most notably in Tva's long running dramatic comedy Tribu.com, Radio Canada's La Parts des Anges and Jean Claude Lord's Lobby.

Andreas is an active member of Montreal's theatre community, having worked with many Montreal companies including Infinitheatre, Centaur Theatre, Projet Porte Parole, Scapegoat Carnivale and lending a hand in the development of new plays by participating in the activities of Playwright's Workshop Montreal. He made his debut as a director at North Hatley's Piggery Theatre.

David Oppenheim oppenheim@scapegoatcarnivaletheatre.com

David Oppenheim has been playing and studying music for over 20 years. He has performed music for three theatre productions: The Scavenger's Daughter and The Works and Life is a Dream. His musical interests include jazz and experimental music, as well as folk music from around the world. He is a member of the Montreal band White Flower. He has also worked as an Assistant Stage Manager. Aside from theatre and music, he is currently doing graduate work in religion and philosophy.
